The Hong Kong Government has recently enhanced its dedicated Branding, Upgrading and Domestic Sales Fund (BUD Fund) to assist local enterprises. In this way, institutions will support their companies to explore and develop the Mainland market by developing brands, upgrading and restructuring their operations and promoting domestic sales in Mainland China. The geographical coverage of the Fund has also been expanded to include all economies with which Hong Kong has signed Investment Promotion and Protection Agreements (IPPA) and free trade agreements (FTA).

Through this fund, eligible companies can receive up to HK$7 million in matching funds to strengthen their brand, improve their operations and increase sales. In addition, it is intended to support companies to enter the growing e-commerce sector in mainland China. This will be achieved through the specialised E-commerce Easy programme, which commenced on 15 July 2024. This allows companies to access HK$1,000,000 funding on a flexible basis, within the total funding limit of HK$7,000,000 per company. Some of these projects may then include, for example, setting up online shops, advertising on Chinese e-commerce platforms and developing mobile applications with payment capabilities.

In addition to providing financial support, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is organizing and attending promotional events worldwide. On the 24th of September, they hosted a luncheon in Madrid called “Hong Kong – Spain: Partnering for Success”. This event was held at the Hotel Rosewood Villa Magna and was attended by representatives of several companies. The event provided an opportunity to learn about the advantages of expanding business to Hong Kong.
