Chile: opening the door to a new era of investment
Chile has introduced a package of tax measures aimed at boosting economic growth, encouraging investment, and creating jobs in the country over the coming years.
Background to the measure
The new National Reconstruction and Economic and Social Development Law, published on October 17, 2026, introduces several changes. These developments may affect both companies already operating in Chile and those considering entering the market.
What does this mean for businesses?
One of the key measures is the reduction of the corporate income tax (CIT) rate from 27% to 23% over three years: to 25.5% in 2027, 24% in 2028, and 23% in 2029. Lower tax rates could improve project profitability and encourage companies to review their investment plans.
The law also moves Chile toward a fully integrated tax system. Over time, corporate income tax paid by a company will be fully available as a tax credit against the taxes owed by its shareholders. Depending on each investor's circumstances, this could reduce the overall tax burden on distributed profits.
In addition, companies exporting certain knowledge-based services may benefit from a new tax credit linked to employee compensation. The measure is designed to support job creation in the digital economy. The amount of the credit will depend on several factors, including where employees perform their work.
For major investment projects, the law introduces a tax stability regime for qualifying investments of at least USD 50 million. If certain conditions are met, investors may obtain greater legal certainty regarding the tax treatment of their projects for a defined period.
Overall, these reforms could make Chile a more attractive destination for investment, service exports, and business expansion. As the new rules are implemented and further guidance is issued, companies should assess how these changes may affect their operations and future plans.
LATAM at a Glance
- President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won Brazil's presidential runoff with approximately 51.8% of the vote. His re-election points to continuity in the leadership of Latin America's largest economy, as businesses closely monitor the government's economic and fiscal priorities.
- El Salvador is moving forward with a tax amnesty designed to give taxpayers an opportunity to regularize their outstanding obligations. Companies operating in the country should review the final terms and applicable deadlines once the measure is officially published.
Chile's economic outlook offers promising opportunities for companies planning to operate in the country. At the same time, adapting to new regulations makes it essential to keep your multinational group's accounts under control.
